Lighting plans

Due to the limited time availability of the location, we had to record the movie during the day. This meant that we had to imitate night-time by shutting all blinds use artificial lighting. The main focus however was the red light. The red light represents Mike’s and Dave’s psychological projection. Their minds are influenced by the horror movie making them perceive red lighting in places as if their fear is being manifested visually. In the first scene, the light is being shined on the actors from the front, as they are watching the horror movie. As they move into the hallway, the red light creeps from the bedroom, symbolizing danger and fear. Finally, once in the bedroom, the light is being shone from behind them, casting shadows and a red outline. As they emerge with Bartholomew, revealing there is no monster, the light disappears showing that they got over their fears.
