Title Research

The movie got the title ‘False Alarm’ after setting up the audience for something terrifying and then quickly subverting it into a humorous bit. Since the whole situation diffuses after the audience realises that there is no monster, and realises that it was all a ‘false alarm’. This is how I originally got the idea of what to name my movie.

I also got inspired by the Scary Movie franchise, which also first builds up tension, and then delivers an absurd comedic punchline. False Alarm uses classic horror film techniques, where the characters are scared by harmless noises. For example, Scream (1996) uses paranoia to make people react to things that aren’t really dangerous, before the real threat appears. Only in my case, there is no real threat.

The red on black writing is heavily inspired by the Scary Movie franchise, but also by psychological conditioning through colour. Red light plays a major role in my film and I think that hinting at it in the title is necessary.
